Steam doesn't read catalogues.
Cooking facing your guests looks great until the steam reaches their faces. Below is a live flow on your graphics card. Run your hand through it.
This device didn't start the simulation. The numbers below don't change because of that.
A side section of the island. An illustrative model, not a calculation of a specific kitchen.
m³/h to catch the steam
island, 80 cm above the hob
An estimate from the FurniGen knowledge base, after VDI 2052: a gas hob with two 2 kW burners. It isn't a norm or the rating of any specific hood.

The stage in numbers
NKBA norms. These are recommendations, not law.
- 305 / 381mm
of free worktop on either side of the hob: a hot pot has to go somewhere.
- 229mm
of worktop behind the hob, so guests don't touch the pots.
- 610mm
per guest at the island.
- 1219mm
of walkway if two of you cook.
Where we are now
- The planner doesn't place a hob on an island automatically. We do it by hand, with you.
- There's no island hood or downdraft in the catalogue, only the norm. We can do a wall hood above a row.
- The service is in closed testing, with no paid orders yet. We don't promise manufacturing, installation, lead times or guarantees yet. No price: the calculation comes first.
How it's built
- Incompressible Navier-Stokes in WebGL2 fragment shaders: advection, vorticity, Jacobi pressure iterations, projection.
- Half-float textures, three fields, and a steam grid four times finer than the velocity grid. No libraries.
- Web Audio synthesises the sizzle from noise right in the browser, with no files, and only after a press.
- Simulation code loads after the first frame. Without WebGL the page stays whole.
